The Sydney ArtistAn artist is traditionally defined as a person who creates paintings or drawings as a profession or hobby.If doing as both hobby or profession can satisfy being an artist, then neither really matter. For what is the real difference except the monetary value generated. This is blunt statement and I understand that there are standards and norms of a profession, but I would argue that there are similar standards for any serious hobby. However, the difference is not absolute monetary value, but rather monetary value relative to cost of living.It doesn't matter how well crafted your ceramic mug is, if your craft profits you $1,000 but costs are $4,000 what you do is forever a hobby, on the other hand if your craft profits you $1,000 but costs are $400 you are quite the professional, and can enjoy the praise of being known as someone who is living off their art.--Just yesterday I sat with old man by the riverside. I complained about life. I was tired and I wanted a bed to rest on, I was hungry and I wanted to eat bread, I was restless and wanted to free. But theres a cost to everything I told the old man, I feel the oppression of employment I told the old man. I wanted answers to my discontent. So he asked me a question.Do you know the difference between a slave and a servant?I would say that a servant is free and a slave is not. At the very least a servant is free to protest and argue against his master whereas a slave cannot.Perhaps a servant does have that freedom, but when he needs to eat both the slave and the servant must obey his master, is that not true?Well ...
